Valley City is located in Barnes County where it is the County Seat. The Sheyenne River winds its way all around the city creating a myriad of beautiful bridges. Valley City is home to the North Dakota Winter Show featuring the worlds largest crop show.
History
Valley City first called The Second Crossing of the Sheyenne when it was founded in 1872, as the Northern Pacific railroad crossed the river here.
Points of Interest
Valley City is built on the banks of the Sheyenne River and therefore is home to many bridges. The Historic Bridges Tour takes you over eight historic bridges. From the highline bridge built as the Northern Pacific Railroad could cross the Sheyenne, to the many city bridges, this tour will take you back in time, to when we were totally dependent as a nation upon ground travel.
The Medicine Wheel is a stone monument solar calendar constructed in the fashion of the the North American Indians from this region.
