Hiking and wildlife viewing are the main activities that are enjoyed by visitors of these Grasslands each year. Wildlife species who call the Grasslands home include elk, antelope, whitetail and mule deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes, pheasants, eagles, falcons, prairie dogs and more. Other activities enjoyed in the Grasslands are camping, horseback riding, photography, canoeing, fishing and hunting. You may want to obtain a map of the Grasslands prior to going on your outdoor adventure. Maps are available for $4.00 from the U.S. Forest Service, which can be reached at (701) 250-4443.

The Little Missouri National Grasslands are located in western North Dakota and are full of prairies, high plains and the landscapes of Badlands. Consisting of 140 miles, this Grassland is the largest of the 19 grasslands found in the western United States.

The Sheyenne National Grasslands consist of native grasslands and sand hills. This Grassland consists of more than 70,000 acres and is located in the southeast portion of North Dakota.
